Olympic Gold Medallists Arrive in style to Homecoming Celebrations

Newtownards rolled out the red carpet last Friday evening, August 15, 2024, to celebrate the homecoming of Olympic gold medallists Rhys McClenaghan and Jack McMillan. The two athletes, who recently triumphed at the Paris Games, were greeted with cheers and applause from a jubilant crowd.

The event was made even more special by Star Car Hire, which provided a unique ride for the champions. McClenaghan, famed for his prowess on the pommel horse, and McMillan, a star swimmer, traded their usual equipment for a different kind of horsepower—Star Car Hire’s classic 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible.

The vintage vehicle added a touch of style to the festivities as the athletes made their way through the town.

So last week Star Car Hire was asked to supply a classic ’64 Chevy Impala Lowrider for the ‘Gin and Juice’ launch event at Flipper’s Roller Boogie Palace in west London!!! As massive fans of NWA and old-school hip-hop it’s safe to say that we were super-excited to be involved in this event as ‘Gin & Juice’ is the creation of Hip Hop Godfathers ‘Dr Dre’ and ‘Snoop Dogg’. The Vintage 1964 American Lowrider, owned by Patrick Banks, really turned heads at the red carpet launch party with its full hydraulic suspension and the party reached new levels when Snoop and Dre were joined on stage by a surprise guest – Eminem! Pogoing Minis with Britains Got Talent!!

Star Car Hire was recently approached by the team at Britain's Got Talent to source three classic Minis for a daring Pogo stunt by @duncanpogo. Thankfully the Canadian Pogoing Legend manged to successfully clear all three cars before entering the main stage to perform more daring pogo action! FAMOUS AT LAST!!! Back in November Star Car Hire received a rather interesting call from UK TV Production company ‘Wiser Films’ looking to buy one of our Convertible Volkswagen Beetles for a new TV show called 'Dream Car Fixers'. The concept of the show involves presenter Sheldon Nichols and his business partner / mechanic Peter Harriott sourcing dream classic cars for clients throughout the UK, fixing them up to the client’s spec and hopefully making a profit at the end. In episode 8 of the show Star Car Hire director Mike Barr, sells one of his beloved VW Beetles to the team who then do their best to add a little sparkle to the car within their allocated budget!!  You can watch the show on UKTV now!!

Star Car Hire was recently approached to source this stunning bright red 1988 Porsche 924s for a fashion editorial shoot for the March '24 issue of ‘Harper’s Bazaar’. The shoot took place in London back in December 2023 and the finished shots, taken by Photographer 'Jem Mitchell', look stunning! The Shoot was styled by Miranda Almond and features South Sudanese model Nyarach Abouch Ayuel.

TV & Movie Car Exhibition at The Haaning Collection Car Museum in Copenhagen, Denmark

Starsky & Hutch Legend David Soul Dies

Starsky & Hutch actor David Soul sadly passed away today at the age of 80. Soul was best known for his iconic role as ‘Detective Kenneth Hutchinson’ in 1970s American TV Cop show ‘Starsky & Hutch’ where he starred alongside Paul Michael Glaser (Starsky) and Antonio Fargas (Huggy Bear). The detective duo were renowned for their amazing onscreen chemistry as they rode around the streets of fictional 'Bay City' fighting crime in Starsky’s bright red 1974 Ford Gran Torino, otherwise known as ‘The Striped Tomato'. (CAR FACT: Souls character 'Hutch' drove a beat up tan coloured 1973 Ford Galaxie 500 in the series which was slightly more inconspicous when compared to the red and white striped Torino). It really was one of the coolest U.S. cop shows ever made and all of us at Star Car Hire are truly gutted to hear of David's passing. We have personally owned several Starsky and Hutch Gran Torinos over the years so the show really did have quite an impact on us. Filled with great actors, cool American cars and a funky soundtrack, it’s a show that will always be remembered and loved. RIP David.

Congrats to Barry Murray and Alison Shevlin who got married in Castleblayney in Monaghan last week. Star Car Hire was tasked with sourcing a massive retro American Airstream RV for the new music video from British Rock band 'Nothing But Thieves'. The video was shot down in Kent and we had to transport this huge 1980s beast down there for three days of filming. Lakeside Shopping Centre Emergency Vehicle Display

Star Car Hire were pleased to provide vehicles for a static display event at Lakeside Shopping Centre in West Thurrock, Essex a few weeks ago. The Emergency services themed event took place on Sunday 10th September and featured a selection of our cool and quirky Police cars including a vintage Morris Minor Panda Car, an American Dodge Charger Sherriffs car and an NYPD Ford Crown Victoria! Star Car Hire were asked to provide a classic BMW and have it custom wrapped for a special photo shoot with Burberry. This, originally black, 1973 BMW 3-Series CSi couple was literally given a new Burberry striped coat in just over a day by a specialist vehicle wrapping business in London. Music Video News! So we recently supplied six cars for the new Amaarae Music video for her single "Co-Star". Incredible video shot in London and features Two Lotus', a new shape Ford Mustang Fastback, A convertible Corvette Stingray and a red Ferrari F355 - not to mention a drift car (check out the end scenes!!!) 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner Muscle Car Hire for Dielmann Fashion Shoot.

FROM THE ARCHIVES: Back in August 2015 Star Car Hire was asked to source a suitable Muscle Car to appear in a fashion shoot for clothing/shoe company Dielmann. The shoot took place in Bath, UK and the bright orangle muslc ecar featured was our 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner which is based in Bristol. No better car for the job! Check out some photographs below. FAST X UK PROMO TOUR.

Star Car Hire was super excited to have been part of the UK promo tour for the new Fast X movie! The job involved wrapping a Lamborghini Gold and taking it on a tour around some of the UKs largest cities to help promote the new film release. Of course, the Gold lamborghini was not the only car onboard, I mean, it wouldn't be Fast & Furious without Doms black Dodge Charger!! Such a fun couple of weeks with a great team of people. Star Car Hire worked alongside our good friends at Swords and Eagles on this particular music video shoot for UK Artist Tom Grennan. The video was shot back in March 2022 up in Manchester and a newer shape American Dodge Challenger was the car that the team hired. The video looks incredible and the car almost looks futuristic in the way that it has been shot. 

Cars in Film: Pip Millet Music Video production for 'Ride with me' - 1977 Lincoln Continental MK IV Lipstick 

This music video production was shot up in Stockport and Manchester and features a rather large American '77 Lincoln Continental MK IV which we sourced especially for the shoot. Once again our friends at Swords and Eagles did an incredible job on the production with some amazing special effects! Check out the video here....

Trucks in Film! Music Video promo for Holly Humberstone - 'Scarlett'

This awesome video directed by Raja Virdi was shot down in Woodbridge back in August 2021. It was great to work with Gregg and Rob from Noir productions again and was an interesting production to be part of (despite being a little tricky to find a truck trailer that could be suitably attached to the large American Peterbilt Rig). This single 'Scarlett' is taken from Holly's debut Album 'Paint my bedroom black' released in 2021 through Polydor Records. Enjoy the music video below...
